Odisha’s young Wushu athlete Aanika Pattnaik has brought distinction to India and Odisha with an impressive double-medal performance at the Batumi International Wushu Championships 2026, held in Batumi, Georgia.

Representing Team India, Aanika secured a Silver Medal in the Sub-Junior Girls’ Single Weapon event and followed it with a Bronze Medal in the Wing Chun category, finishing the international championship with two podium finishes. The competition brought together athletes from several countries, providing a strong international platform for young Wushu practitioners.

A Strong International Performance

Aanika's silver-medal performance in the Single Weapon event demonstrated her technical ability, control and consistency in weapon-based Wushu. She subsequently added a bronze medal in Wing Chun, further underlining her versatility across different forms of the discipline.

Her performance represents the outcome of sustained training, discipline and competitive preparation, while also highlighting the growing pool of young Wushu talent emerging from Odisha.

The achievement was particularly significant as Aanika competed internationally at the sub-junior level, gaining valuable experience against athletes from outside India.

Recognition from the Wushu Association of Odisha

The achievement was warmly acknowledged by the Wushu Association of Odisha (WAO).

WAO leadership, including Dr. Bishnu Mohan Mohanty, Chairman and President; Er. Yuvraj Harichandan, Vice President; Bikash Chandra Pattnaik, General Secretary; and Shri Samir Mohanty, Patron of WAO and President of the Odisha Olympic Association, congratulated Aanika on her international success. The Association also acknowledged Team India coach Pradyumna Behera for his contribution to the athlete's preparation and performance.

Aanika's achievement adds to Odisha's growing presence on the national and international Wushu stage. Her double-medal campaign demonstrates the potential of the state's emerging athletes and the importance of structured coaching, competition exposure and sustained grassroots development.
